UNWARRANTABLE. To the Editor.

Sir,—My attention being drawn to a paragraph in your last issue respecting the shooting of a dog by Mr F. Alining, I was indeed surprised to find that you had so unwarrantably misconstrued the whole thing, and being as I was an eye witness I feel called upon to contradict it; and, moreover, I am prepared to make an affidavit that the following statement is correct in every respect. That there was not the remotest chance of any one being injured by the shot, aa set forth by you, as it was tired in an opposite direction to the doorway, and also that there was not a child outside of the house, consequently what occasion had Mr Henrici to push it out of the way, which he undoubtedly did Hot do. I cannot conclude without remarking that there has been a gross injuatice done to Mr Arming in not acquiring his versian of the case ; and, concerning & more suitable place for shooting the animal, I might say that it might be months before he would have a more favorable

opportunity of destroying him, as the owner knew the dog was to be shot, and consequently would not have taken him away; and in the meantime, perhaps, he would have destroyed a of Mr Arming's sheep. The paragraph in question reads as though Mr Arming had just heard that the dog had been amongst his sheep, and that he had in a fit of anger seized the loaded gun, and, without a moment's warning, proceeded to the house and shot the dog inside; whereas, after obtaining legal advice, he told the owner the same morning that he intended to shoot the dog, which he did in a straightforward manner, to which I can testify.— Yours, etc., T. L. BARKER. [Wβ can only say that our information was from a most reliable source, and that we shall expect our informant to substantiate the statements, in order that, if Mr Arming has been wronged, it may be set right.— Ed. Mail.]
