LICENSING MEETING. Chuistchurch, June 15. At the Christchurch South licensing meeting to-day, Mr Joynt withdrew the application for the transfer of the Borough Hotel to Barrett, at the suggestion of the Bench. Nest Monday will probably be agreed upon for their departure from Wellington. THE NOTORIOUS CAPTAIN HUNT. Hunt, ot' Sainoan notoriety, is pursuing his action against Sir A. Gordon, High Commissioner of the Western Pacific. The position of affairs is as follows:—Hunt lias nerved the writ and declaration on Sir Arthur Gordon, who pleaded (1) that he took action by virtue of power in Council ; (2) that ii New Zealand Court had no jurisdiction ; and (3) that even if it had, a New Zealand Court would be debarred by reason of the case having been heard and disposed of by the Supreme Court of Fiji Hunt's replication is that on Order in Council is ultra vires as regards Samoa. He purposes following the Governor to England, if necessary, and it is not imI possible that this may delay the Governor's departure.
