PARLIAMENTARY

(FltOM OUR OWN CoiIUKSPONDEXT.)

Wellington, June 8

There is. nothing new in political circles here. The rumor that Mr Wright is to have tho vacant portfolio is probably without ioundation. I believe he has no*, been spoken to on the subject by Ministers. Major Atkinson has been unwell, but is better. It is understood that he is not sufficiently recovered to deliver the financial statement to-morrow, and therefore he will not make it till Tuesday next. To-day the Mouse adjourned at half-past five o'clock to enable ministers to pay their respects to the citizens of Wellington, who gave a ball in honor of the officers of the great warship Nelson. The business to-morrow will be the passage of the Peace Preservation iiill and the Indemnity Bill. I do not anticipate any lengthy discussion on any of these bills. Members opposed to them will take a division as a record, but there will be no obstruction. Mr Macandrew will probably say a few words as he has not yet spoken on the subject. Those opposed to the Peace Preservation Bill will bow to the majority, -The bill making provision for altering the constitution, brought in by iAir George Grey, will come on for discussion to-morrow. 1 believe it will be thrown out by a large majority, as many of the members of the opposition will vote against it. There has bam "-i.-mo talk of Mr Hur*;tbou,se bringing

forward a vote of want of confidence, but I think it is only talk. It is not likely to be supported by the bulk of the opposition. I don't think it at all probable that the opposition will try conclusions with the ministry until their policy is before the House. I understand Messrs Macandrcw and Montgomery are in thorough accord, and tiiat they are endeavoring to carry out a course of action mutually determined on some months ago. I think lam right in stating that they will not be a party to bogus want of confidence motions.
