The Union Company have, on their way o'it. or under construction, ten new vessels. Five nre intended for the intercolonial and coastal trade, and nre all of the snnn d ; -ncnsions. 285 ft length, 36ft width, 25 r t depth, or a trifle larger than the Kotomahana. Tlie smaller boats are cargo boats for the coast. One, called the Express boat, is to run from Lyttelton np the West Coast, once a week, carrying 100 saloon passengeiß, at n speed of 15 knots. The Heio goes into the Fiji trade.
Nicholas Coughan was killed on Saturday while working at the Seacliff Asylum wo>ks.
The Hentheote races to-day were :— Henthcote Handicap Steeplechase, Albion and Fairpiay dead heat, Norman second. Maiden Steeplechase, Banbury 1, Billey Davis 2, Siel'a 3. Birthday Handicap Cup, Supplej ick 1, Psyche 2. Pippin 3.
