Referring to the medals for wool exhibits gained by New Zealand at the Crystal Palace International Exhibition of wools the Agent-General recommends that they' be retained hy the Government and no given to the parties for whose wool they were given, tho Government having borne all the expense of exhibiting. „.„ ~ffl E ~ OPPOSITION. Mr Steward is acting as Opposition whip ; he is member for Waimate. The notice of the Opposition Caucus held today is signed by Messrs Macandrew and Montgomery. In the undernamed the feeling is said to bo in favor of Mr Macandrew for leader. His friends are actively working for him. AN R.M. WANTED. A case against Messrs Eckersiey and Macfarlane, brewers, at Kaiapoi, for selling beer without a license, was adjourned at the Christchurch Court to-day, at the suggestion of the presiding justices, who thought it was better tbat the Resident Magistratejshonld be present. COMPULSORY TEMPERANCE. An order prohibiting hotelkeepers from supplying liquor to the husband of Mary Ann Midgeley was granted to-day at Christohuroh, and a similar order was granted by the R.M. at Lyttelton, as against Thomas Wiahart. a carrier, his father being the applicant. ;the stanmore election. Messrs Stout and Wynn Williams have drafted the Stanmore Election Indemnity Bill, which is to be introduced by Mr TuiYibull to morrow, to relieve Mr Pilliet from penalties and enable him to stand again.
