Sir Atkhur Gordon leaves for Wellington to-day in the Hinemoa.
The Hon R. Olliveß has been sworn as a member of Government.
A Maori fell from a train running between Waipawa and Te Aute, in Napier, on Saturday last, and was killed. The Daily News published a paragraph in Saturday's issue stating that Mr Gladstone is expected to resign the Chancellorship of the Exchequer
It is announced that Leonard Courtenay, M.P;, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, has been appointed Financial Secretary to the Treasury,'wee the late Lord Frederick Cavendish, and that tho Hon R. Evelyn Ashley, Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade, has been appointed to succeed Mr Courtenay as Under-Secretary to the Colonies.
The London Pre s generally approve of the provisions of the Biil introduced by Mr Gladstone for the adoption of repress sive measures in Ireland. Mr Pamell is now under police protection, in consequence of a threatening letter which he has received in regard to his action in supporting the Irish policy of the Government.
