Report for tbe week ending Thursday evening. May 4th : —

Business during the week in the grain trade is much urion a par with its predecessor, and no material change has taken place in values. Wheat—Tuscan of good quality in shipping lines is worth from 4s 9d to 4s lOd per bushel fob.; other wheats from 4s 7d to 4s 9d per bushel ; second quality wheat, 4s 3d to 4s 5d ; chick and broken wheat, 3* 6d to 3s 9d per bushel.

Oats —Although the market may be said to be a shade easier, it is more in name than reality. The exceedingly mild weather which has hitherto prevailed has to some extent had an influence on values, inasmuch as the consumption is very considerably lessened. Holders are in no way disposed to accept lower rates. Milling quality are worth from 3s 4d to 3s Gd per bushel ; feed samples 3s 2d to 3s 3d per bushel, deli - vered in Christchur.h.

Barley—Brewers and md titers are well supplied ; this cereal is consequently slower than was anticipated. Prime malting quality may be quoted at from 4s 5d to 4s 7d per bushel; second-rate samples from 3s 6d to 3s 9d per bushel. Of feed quality there is little or none offering. B.ans—The market is a shade easi r. on -account of unusually large supplies offering at the moment. Value. 4s to 4s Id p. r bushel, delivered in Christchurch.

Potatoes—Values during the week bave improved. 32s 6d to 33s 6d per ton being the rates at which business has been effected.

Cheese and Butter—The former is worth from 4£d to 4|d ; the hitter, 9d to lOd per _b. Demand good.
