Ralph Waldo Emmerson, the American poet and philosopher, has died at the ripe ago of 79. The Native Minister has sent Tawhaio a present of powder and shot. Earl Spencer has been appointed to succeed -Earl Cowper as Viceioy of Ireland.
The Intercolonial 8 oar boat race has been won by New South Wales by three lengths. A GRAND banquet, at which the Prince of Wales was present, has been given to Sir H. Parkes at which he stated statistics showing that the Australian child is becoming equal to its parent. Ministers are hard at work at Wellington, the Premier being at the office from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parliament will be opened by Commission on the 18th inst, and Mr O'Rorke will probably be reappointed speaker. Tawhaio's meeting commenced yesterday. About half a dozen Europeans went up from Auckland. There will be no members of the Ministry present. The Natives are gathering, but the speech making will not commence for severul days.
