Union Steamers.—Mr Hsnning received the following telegram, respecting new vessels of the Union S.S. Co.'s fleet, yosterday :—'• TlieM.mapouri sailed from Lisbon on tl) seventeenth ; the Mahmapua from 111- (.!iyilfc>.on• dm twenty second, ami the Onni[.K iv u-.i-i launched "on 1' 10 twentieth in«t." The Minapouri is 1900 tons, and will lie tins 1 Hi-gust vessel of tho hVet. Ihe Mahiiiapua is 450 tons anil intended for the bar harbors of the West Coast. 'Lhe Omapere will be v fine vessel of 600 tons for the Navy Zealand coast trade. German Bay School Committee.— A meeting of the above was held on Wednesday, 28th inst. Present Messrs Jolly, Ctirry, and Jonos. The weather was very threatening which no doubt wan the cause of such a small attendance ot members. The minutes of tho previous mooting being read and approved, tie Chairman read correspondence from tue Board of E lucation about tho appointment of a sewing mistress for the side_ school, one letter" advising the committee to nominate some competent person, another I approving the appointment of Mns Mary Jones, whom the committee had recommended to tho Board. It was proposed that Miss Mary Jones commence her duties on the Ist of May. The Chairman informed the meeting that when in Chnstchnrch he called at the Board of Education's office and was authorised to get certain work done at the side school. It was resolved that the members present meet at the side school on Friday (this day), and draw up a specification and call tor tenders. The master of the main school applied for a school clock, closet pans, etc. This coming under the head ot furniture it was resolved the Chairman write the Board of Education about providing them. The Chairman drew the attention of the meeting to the prizes he had procured for the children attending the main school. It was resolved that the Rkv 11. Stacker be asked to examine tho school, and Miss Shackell the sewing. In the event of the Rev Blocker not being able to come Mr Jaeobson to be asked to examine the school. The meeting then adjourned.
