I Chkistchukch, April 24. Detective J. Neill has been sent, per San Francisco, after Shepherd, the Tiinaru defaulter. Owen Morton, an attendant at the Sunnyside Asylum, was charged this morning with having unlawfully assaulted a patient. The Crown Prosecutor conducted the case for the Crown, and Mr Joynt appeared for the defendant. There was a great deal of evidence, and the Bench determined to take time to consider whether the blow was accidental or intentional, and will give their decision to-morrow. There was a serious mishap to Cobb's. coach at the bottom of the Patea hill today. The coach was going steadily when the leaders shied at a dray on the road, and the coich went over a slight embankment and capsized. It was full at the time. Mr Hutchison, solicitor of Wanganui, was severely injured, and a young lad sustained a serious scalp wound, and is not expected to recover, A number of others were more or less injured. No blame is attached to the driver. Wellington, April 24. The members of the Ministry have presented Mrs Hall, wife of the late Premier with a handsome piece of plate to show the cordial relations that existed between Mr Hall and themselves, and also their appreciation of courtesy and kindness from Mrs Hall. A fire has occurred at Rutherford's mill, Brightwater, Nelson. It is said to have broken out in a large shed adjacent to the mill, which was erected for flax dressing. From this the fire spread to the mill. It is estimated that thero were 2000 bushnls of wheat on the premises, some of which was siivad. Mr Rutherford's loss is estimated *t £2000 over the insurance. The origin of the lire is unknown.
