Tuesday, April 4.

Before Justin Aylmer, Esq., R.M,

DRUNKENNESS,

David Stuart, for this offence was fined 10s, or in default 24 hours imprisonment.

CIVIL CASES.

Kissel v. Meyer. Claim £3 16s—Judgment summons. Defendant had written from the North Island, saying he was willing to pay 10s a week. Terms accepted, and order mado accordingly Mrs Edmondson v. the trustees of the late Mrs Scarborough. Claim £5 Is. This was a claim for washing for and boarding Mrs Scarborough. Plaintiff said that Airs Scarborough had boarded with her for some time, and she charged her with a month's board at £1 a week. She did not board a month altogether, but stopped a day or two on and off. Had washed seven dozen clothes for her at 3s per dozen.

By II Piper, one of the trustees—Did not do any work at Mrs Scarborough's except washing. Did not know if Mrs Scarborough was in the habit of doing her own washing, Kept no books, but had a way of putting down the number of clothes she washed. Mrs Scarborough boarded off and on at different times stopping away several days and then coming again. Had never sent in the bill to Mrs Scarborough. When Mrs Scarborough went away, she said she would pay her when she cainn back.

Alick Wright, sworn said : I was not aware that Mrs Scarborough hoarded out of her house in May. She came to my house on 22nd May and stopped to the 23rd May. Mrs Scarborough had a Mrs Johnson staying with her after that. She was not in the habit of running small account?. Never heard of Mrs Scarborough staying at Mrs Edniondson's.

Mr Piper said that the tradesmana' bills showed that Mrs Scatborough lud things regularly at the house all tlm time she was supposed to be boarding at plaintiff's. There were only some dozen and a half of clothes left by Mrs Scarborough with Mrs Edmondson when she went to Ohristchurch.

The Bench did not think the claim for board f-'ubstantiated.

Judgment was given for the washing, viz., £1 Is and costs. This concluded the business.
