GERMAN BAY SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

! An ordinary monthly meeting of the above Committee was held in tho Schoolroom, German Bay, on Wednesday last, 29th inst. Present—Messrs Jolly (chairman), Chappell, Curry, Harrington, Odell, Jonee, and Hammond. MINUTES. The Chairman read the minutes of tho previous meeting, which were confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read from the Board of Education, as follows :— " Sir, —I have tho honor, by direction of the Board, to forward 40 copies of a form which it is thought may be found useful to head masters for obtaining the exact

names, ngea, &c, of children entering the school, with a view to ensuring a correct return in the corresponding columns of the attendance register.—Yours, etc., "J. V. C. Veel, Fecretary."

" I have the honor, by direction of the Board of Education, to acknowledge the receipt of yoar letter of March 4th, and, in reply, to »ay that, as Mr ChappelPa charges against Mr Giles are to be the subject of proceedings in a court of law, and as the Committee, with the exception of Mr Chappell, declare themselves satisfied with Mr Giles, the Board see no reason to take present action in the matter. —Yours, etc., J. V. C. Veel, Secretary. REQUISITES AND ATTENDANCE. Mr Rolleston, the schoolmaster, applied for some requisites for the school, and also sent in a list of children in the district not attending the school, urging that something might be done to compel them to attend. Mr Chappell moved—That the parents of the children that do not attend the echool regularly be written to, informing I them that if their children do not put in an appearance during the ensuing month, and regularly for the future, the act will be put in force to compel them to. Mr Harrington seconded.—Carried. CLEANING THE SCHOOLS. An account for 12 months cleaning Side school was put in by Mr Curry, and Mr Chappell proposed that the whole o£ the money coming from the Board for incidental expenses be paid to the persons that have cloaned the schools for the last 12 months. Seconded by Mr Hammond and carried. IMPECUNIOUS Mr Curry moved " That the Chairman write again to the Board and inform them that the Committee have no funds to get requisites required for the children." Mr Hammond seconded. Mr Chappell moved as an amendment " That the Board be respectfully informed that the Committee are placed in such a position that unless the Board help them ont of their monetary difficulty, which is owing to the extra expense that has been a drain on the funds on account of the Side echool, which was allowed no incidentals during the first six month it was opened, the Committee are sorry to Bay they will have to resign. Mr Odell seconded. A long discussion onsued and an equal number voting for the original proposition and for the amendment, the matter dropped. LEAVE OF ABSENCE. Mr Rolleston applied for leave of absence on Monday next. (Granted.) NIGHT SCHOOL. The Chairman then read a letter from Mr T. H. Giles, asking permission to use the Side school for the purpose of a night school. It was resolved to grant Mr Giles' request if ho provided his own firewood apd paid for cleaning the school. LEAVE OF ABSENCE. Mr Giles wrote, asking for leave of absence on the 31 at inst. (Granted.) SIDE SCHOOL TANK. The Chairman read a letter from Mr Chappell in reference to the state of the tank at the side school, it being choked up with olay. Mexprs Harrington, Jonea, and Odell promised to visit the school and see what could bo done. SH.WING MISTRESS. It was decided to apply to the Board of Education for a sewing- mistress for the Side school. The m-eting then adjourned.
