Mr A. I. McGregor reports that he hold •a most successful sale of stock at Mr Armstrong's, Mount Vernon station, yesterday. The attendance of the public was large, but there were not many buyers present, owing no doubt to the r/m sale at Christchurch being held same clay. The stock yarded were probibly the best ever seen on a like occasion on the Peninsula The quality of tho stock made the buyers, though few, compete anxiously for the lines offered. The op ningpen was a line of crossbred ewes which were passed in at 9s 9d. Tho next four pens were a grand lot of cross'red ewes and were bought by Mr James Daly at 10s. No. 6 and No. 1 were afterwards bought by the same gentlemen at a similar price. No. 7, a pen of 250 wethers were bought by Mr Armstron, Jun,, at 8s Bd. No. 8, a pen of 500 fat crossbred wethers were bought by the same gent'emen at 10s. No. 9, 320 fai wethers were also purchased at 10s by Mr G. Armstrong, Jun , INfo. 10 was a pen of 800 breeding ewes out of which Mr Daly bought 300 at 8s Gd, the rest been passed in, A pen of IUO culls were bought by Mr Daly at In 81. The cattle fetched high prices, a line of 13 steers full to Mr Bird:iij.'' ;■ nod at £G 5s each. at £4 10s each. 3 dry cows were also bought by Mr C. Haylock at £4 2a Gd each. Immediately after the sale Mr W. Birdling, Sen., advanced Is a head on 150 of Mr G. Armstrong, Jui's., wethers, and Mr R. Latter advanced the snme amount on the cull of 100 sheep from Mr Daly's purchase. Altogether the sale may be considered one of the most Hiiccessl'nl ever held on the Peninsula. Immediately after the sale of the sheep and before the cattle were offered, Mr McGregor read the following telegram he had received from IT. Matson and Co. :—Aged crossbred store ewes 8s to 9s; two and four tooth for grazing to 10s ; aired merinocs 5s to 5s 6d; fat crossbreds 12s to 14s. Competition good.
