•AKAROA RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. * Friday, March 17. «, Befoije Justin Aylmrii, Esq., R.M. civil case. W. J. Moore v. Frederick Orchard. Claim £1 Pis 6d. Judgment for amount Claimed and costs. The Court then adjourned. ASSESSMENT COURT, HEAD OF THE BAY ROAD BOARD OFFICE. — « 20th March, 1881. Before Justin Aylmeu, Esq., Judge. Z. Davis—No appearance of objector. J. A LeClerc—Name of J. LeClerc to be struck off roll, and Jas. Wright, Jan., inserted in lieu thereof. y «• Samuel Fyfe—No appearance.—Valuation sustained. Joseph Libeui, Jun.—Reduced to 23 ■acres. Number of section corrected from No. 3211 to 752.—Valuation reduced to £46 ss. _ John Curry applied to have the name of E. W. Morey inserted on the roll as owner and occupier of the oyster fishery, German Bay. There was no appearance of the •objector and tbe valuer insisted upon the erriginal name being retained. The Judge remarked upon the generally informal way in which objections had been lodged. During tho first few years of the Rating Act he had not so strongly insisted upon the schedules of the Act being carried out, but tho time had now arrived when the statute must be strictly construed. The Valuer eaid, that in the cases of 'Curry, Fyfe, and Libeau, he would not take technical objection, what the Board wanted was a fair and reasonable valuation. He was prepared to oppose the objections on their merits. He would consent to a reduction of the acreage •charged to Mr Libeau, and a pro rata reduction of valuation. The roll was corrected accordingly and signed, and the Judge complimented the Valuer (Mr L. I. McGregor) on the general accuracy of the .roll. The Court then adjourned. • t » -» Wantvri. WANTED.
