MORMONISM.

To the Editor.

Sir.—Having read your Le Bon's Bay correspondent's account of the Mormon lecture, I imi.-ic say that I am greatly surprised to think that anyone except one of the elders could write such a paragraph, for there is no doubt whoever your correspondent is, his sympathy lies with the Mormons. Perhaps he is not aware that a bill has just been passed in the United states prohibiting polygamy, and I have no doubt it will be the means of rooting out such a detestable religion. In any small settlement there will always be found a few ignorant people who are rtiady to swallow anything they hear, but if the report is to be relied upon, most of those present (including the schoolmaster) were, sympathizers with the polygamists. I think tiie greatest credit is due to Mr H. Barnett, Sen., for expounding his views on tho matter and trying to expose such a sham religion. If I had known that such a lecture was going to he held I should have ananged to take over a dozen friends or so Avell supplied with eggs, when the Mormon disciples would have got such a reception that they would have wished themselves close to the waters of the Salt Lake. Trusting that those families who have been so far misled, aa lo receive baptism at their hands, may have the rotteness of the Joseph Smith's creed fairly explained to them, and that they may be persuaded to abandon such a religion and remain where they are.—

Yours, etc,

EXTERMINATOR. Akaroa, March 18, 1881.
