AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.
Mr A. I. McGregor reports that at the sale on Friday Inst nt Brooks' Yards, Henri of the Bay, about 80 head of cattle were yarded, nndsvere mostly sold nt fair prices. A considerable number of the slock was dry cows. -Those in ai ything like condition easily found buyers; p>or and aged are almost unsaleable for anything beyond the price of the hide. Calves and young stock found ready purchasers at fair prices. A few heavy colts were offered, but did not come up to owners' expectations, and wore passed in. Now that ploughing will shortly commence on the Plains, the Christ church market will be found a much better ■ one than the local market. I sold for various clients a lot. of average cows in profit at from ,4*3 17s Gd to £2 17s 6d each, and a line of 1G calves, half of them rather poor, at 15s each ; n lot of steers, rising (wo years old, at ,E2 17s; dry cows, medium fat. Nt from £a 15* to ,£4 10s ; seven head at from 50s to 47s 6d, and fliioihcr let of five at 50s. Owing to the prnnH teod hnrvwt not being quite finished, the fttlendnnco of !»<»yf;is wna not so large as might huw i mi expected.

Amongst other lines of stores, we j;Jaced a lot of Jomioolhed crossbred ewca

Out of an entry of about 170 head wiibinitted by ourselves t'i< j re wen - , liow-ver, not more than a couple of sm dl lines unsold, ho tliHton the whole the sale must be considered a very successful one. The i»est steers brought from £7 10s to £9 10s ; light weights? £5 5s to £7. In stores it was late before the auction commenced, and towards the clo«e there was a scarcity of buyers. We, however, disposed of from 300 to 400 head of mixed classes eiiher nt miction or privately. Alter the sale useful fines of two or three yw.r-ojd mixed cattle brought from £4 to £4 15s, younger ages proportionate prices. In pigs the largest entry was penned we have ever seed at these yards. IVici'S consequently ruled about 10 per centlower th.-in 3 we.ks since, but at this quotation we believe every lot was placed. Fat lambs still sell readily at good prices, a grand line sent to band by Mr K. G. Wright topping Hie market at 9s 3d. The totals yarded for the rlny comprised 10.135 sheep, 10% head of cattle and 814 pigs.
