INTERVIEWS. Mr James Brown waited upon the Board, asking them to do something towards opening tue road to his property, as he was unablo to get to and fro. The Chairman said that Mr Inman had been written to on the matter and had not yet replied. Nothing could be done without Mr Inman's attendance. The Clerk should write to Mr Inman on the subject and directly an answer was received he should be informed and they could both see the Board together. Mr Brown said he hoped the matter n'Otild not be delayed as he was suffering very severe'y for want of a road. Mr William Giddins also waited on the Board, asking for what he stated to be a very much required road to his proporty near French Farm. It was resolved that the Clerk should visit the place and report at next meeting. OLD DUVAUCHELLE'S BAY ROAD. The following letter from the Valuator was read :— " Akaroa, 24th Feb., 1882. From Mrs Rowe, enclosing cheque for rates, and complaining of state of road leading to her property. From Mr J. E. March, enclosing Charitable Aid Board's account. PETITION. The following petition was received : — "Ontiku, Feby. 20, 1882. " Sir, —We, the undersigned ratepayers residing- about Oniiku, beg to call your attention to the necessity existing for a bridge over the main creek at Oiiuku. We would urge 1 lie work being put in hand before the winter, as during that season the; creek is constantly in a Hooded state and quite impassable. The want of a bridge is a great drawback to the children here, as frequently they are unable to get to the school during the winter. Your Clerk reported upon the necessity of the work, and presented an estimate of the cost to the Board, during the past year, but no further steps were taken. Trusting you will see to it at an early date—Yours, etc., " (Signed) John Glynun, William Brown, .John Bruce, Joseph Wilkin, F. W. Moore, Patrick Keegan, John Por'er Jonathan Checkley. Tom Checkley, F. Narbey, jun., Wirema Naera Teao. Wireina Karawheko."

Mr Checkley supported the petition. All that was wanted was a couple of rough logs laid across, so that the children could get across to school, or a horse in tiiDes of flood.' He moved that £5 be expended in the matter. The Chairman said they wanted a trestle bridge, the Clerk's estimate for which was £30. A bridge of the kind spoken of by Mr Checkley could not be put up except on the Maori land, and the Board could not expend money except on the Highway. Mr Checkley was still of opinion that a sufficient bridge could be put up for a small sum, as he believed the residents would help with their work. After further discussion it was resolved that the Clerk and Mr Checkley report at next meeting. QUESTION. Mr Checkley asked if any thing had been done respecting Mr J. Lelivre's road. The Clerk said he had not had time to see io the matter. TENDERS. Gough's Hay Eoad.—The following tendei t> for forming Gough's Bay road were opened : —S.
