'I he BoHotrou Licensing Flfction. There was comparatively little interest taken in the election of members lor the Borough Licensing Committee yesterday. A good liiany gathered to hear the result of the. poll, which was stated by Mr Aylrner, the Returning Officer. t-> be as follows : —W. Browning Tosswill 44, O, Armstrong, .lull.. 41, Rev. After dis cussion, it was proposed by Mr Snow, and seconded by Mr Melntosh—" That this meeting h<> adjourned till October, the opinion of the meeting being that it is too late in the year to get a team together in anything like form : and further, that Mr Stocker should be asked to call a meeting in Akaroa early in October " A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings. There was a fair attendance.

Genkuositv (?). —Tt is said that a gentleman, very anxious to have a road made in the vicinity of his property, promised a certain Road Board that he would give all -the necessary timber for the culverts to the. contractor, whoever he might be. The contract having been advertised, some contractors went to interview the kind friend of the Road Board about the timber, and discovered that it was only fourteen miles away from the icork, on the other side of a high range, and that they were to be allowed to take nothing but those trees that were unfit for splitting ! it is refreshing to meet with such kindness in this hard, money-grubbing age !

Loss ov CiiKi<eE at Exhibitions.— It is well known to many that cheese sent to a distance for exhibition is often lost Mr Goodwin, for instance, lost the cheese with which he took first honors for colonial cheese at the Melbourne exhibition ; and also, that he sent to Dunedin. Fearing that fanners knowing this may be deterred from exhibiting at the International Kxhtbition at Christchureh, we hasten to reassure them. Some one employed by the Fanners' Club will be there to look after the produce sent from here during the exhibition, and at its conclusion it will either to be returned to the owner or sold in Christchureh.

It was further agreed that the. Presdent. Vice-Presi-dent, and Messrs Checkley and Me Gregor be a sub-committee to interview landowners within the boundary named, and ascertain whether any of them are prepared, to part with a suitable piece of land. Ts'ext Saturday was fixed for the subcommittee to do their business, and it was determ'ni'd they should report to the committee on Saturday, 11th of March, before the g ncral meeting of the Farmers , Club.

,Lk Bon's Bay —A correspondent writes :—Since the visit of the late shoal of mackeral nothing of any interest has happened in this neighborhood. Most of the inhabitants have busied themselves in getting in their grass seed, which will be soon finished.

Although a great deal of seed has been destroyed by the bud weather a very large quantity has been secured. Dairy farming is going on most satisfactorily, and with plenty of good Iced and a prospect of higher prices the dairy farmer is m >re contented than usual. We seldom have ratepayers meetings, and a Road Board never sits in Le Bon's. Our school committee makes very littie stir, in fact too little, for the master's house and school ground is a disgrace to any public body. Our Library seems to have become almost a thing oft.be past. Our public school is well attended, and the teachers seem to give general satisfaction. The Church is well attended, and taking into consideration the bickering and quarrelling in some or' the neighboring bays, we ought to be very thmiklul that, pcac£ reigns within our borders.
