WHARF CHARGES.

To the Editor.

Sir, —I should like to know if it is the intention of the Akaroa Borough Council to charge wharfage on gooda that are just sent down to go by the steamer, such as cheese, fruit, &c. I think it must be a mistake on their part if such is their intention. I notice the advertisement says that all goods passing over or landed upon the wharves shall pay such charges. It would read better if it were, all goods entered inwards from other ports, instead of as above. Aa it reads now, a farmer would have to pay 2s for landing a ton of cheese, and the merchant the same for shipping it away. There should also be a certain amount of free storage allowed before charging ; in fact, I think there is something in the present lessee's agreement about the public having the use of tha store on the end of the jetty for 24 hours; but, as far ns 1 can see, there is not much room left them to store anything, as Mr Henniiig has it filled up on his own account.—Yuurs, etc ,
