As before stated, Messrs Wiggins and S Watkins were the first to accept the challenge of Messrs Wilkins and Jucobson. The game was played on Monday, and lasted no less a time than nine hours and a half. The following is a record of the moves : — Cochrane Gambit. White, Black, Messrs Wilkins and Messrs S. Through this carelessness Black takes a knight and two more pawns, and White has a thoroughly uphill game till the 21st move. The move should have been P to Q R 3. b Bad play; the knight should have moved to X B 7, when the result would have been gaining Black's two knights for the loss of White's one. c Black might have resigned at this move, as the game is virtually in White's hands.
