STANMORE ELECTION DECLARED VOID.
Chkistchukch, February 20
Judgment re Stanmore election was delivered this afternoon. The election was declared void on the single point of Mr Pilliett having in a letter implied a pro mise of payment to Scott. Tne Court referred in strong terms to the action of the petitioner in employing a private detective, and the manner evidence was obtained at the White Hart Hotel. Considering the whole matter, and the manner in which the case was got up, the Court thought it w/is not necessary to make any order for costs. The witness Scott was ordered to appear on February 23rd to show cause why he should not be reported guilty of illegal practices. BREWERS FINED. The proprietors of the Suffolk Brewer}' were fined £23 to-day for not stamping a keg of beer presented to a picnic party. EXPORT OF BUTTER. A correspondent telegraphing from Wellington says that for some time past 33001bs of butter have been potted weekly in this city by three firms, and sent to Victoria for exportation to England and China. In the latter country butter realises a very high price.
