AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.
Mr A. I. McGregor reports holding a Bale of sheep and cattle at Mr 11. Matiee's station, Long Bay, yesterday. In face of the difficult access to 'he place of sale, one of the largest and most representative attendances of shcep-owne'-s in the P-i,in-sula was put in. The weather was all that could be desired, and prices for sheep ware excellent. The quotations are as
follows : —Lambs, mixed sexes, 7s .Gd ; ewes, 2, 4. and (5 tooth. Sta Gu ; fat weth-rs 9s 3d ; si ore wethers <)< ; merino culls 3s 7d ; crossbred ewes 4- (id. A lot of bacon pigs were sold at 20s and breeding sows 60s. Cows in profit from £2 10s to &5 10s ; yearlings £2 Gs, and Calves 23s to 255; two-year-old heifers £3 10s.
Messrs 11. Matson and Co. report, on the Live Stock Marker, etc., for the week end ing Thursday, February l(sth, 188"2, an follows :—For yesterday's Addington sale there was an exceptionally heavy mpnly of sheep. Notwithstanding thi- flier- was a good demand. Amongst some of the principal lines the Longbeach crossbredewe» brought 1 Is Gd to 12s 3d, Mr James Bell's wethers 10s 9,1 to lis, Messrs Campbell and Co.'s cro-sbreds at lis; smaller lots proportionate rates. Although th ■ class of store sheep was not so good as on the previous week, still there was no difficulty in effecting sales of tho-o on offer,and old merino ewes and cull wethers. which a few weeks ago were almost unsaleable, are now easily placed at from 2s >6d to 3s Gd per head. For the better class of store sheep, both merinoes and errs;breds, there is ; l-.o a good deinan.l, a large number of fresh conditioned crossbred wethers being sold yesterday at from 10s lo 10s Od per head, full-mouthed merino ewes from 4s tid to 5s 2d ; fat Limbs brought from Ga to !(s per head, 7s Gd being about the average rate. In fat. cattle tlie supply was about eqilal to market icquirements, and the ■ nlk of the entry we disposed of without much alteration in price, vulues if anything being sdighlly mop- in favor ot buyers than at. ihe two previous s.-des. Good qnnlity medium weight steers brought £7 10m to £8 5-t; extra god to £9 : light weightN and heifers, £5 10s to £G 10s nnd £7. Store cattle represented a medium entry of mixed classes, which, with the attendance of a feiv ouisidc buyers, were mostly ch-ared at slightly improved values. Messrs R. Wilkin and Co. report:— There was an average attendance of buyers at the weekly sale of sheepskins which we held on Thursday at our New Zealand Wool Stores. 1588 skins were catalogued and all disposed of. The demand for all descriptions being better than at the previous sale, the competition was keen, and good prices obtained. We notice thai lambskiriH reache 1 to 2s lid each, being tbe highest price yet obtained this season. PelM. large and early shorn Is Bd. la lid, 2s 2d; do, merino. 9d. Is 3d, Is 8-I-; do. small and late shorn, 2d, od, 9d ; lambskin,-', birg-, 2s od, 2s Sd, 2s lid; do. second quality, 'is 4d.'ls 9d, '2s id. 2s od ; country crossbred, full wool'ed skins, sold to 3s lid; country merino, full woolled skins were disposed of up to 5s Gd ; many of lln j se were station skins and well preserved. Fat and tallow—There was a good attendance of the trade and keen competition. 78 packages were catalogued aud all sold. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report, on the grain and produce markets for the week ending IGth Feb.. as follows : — Wool—There is nothing new to note in reference to this staple ; parcels are coming to hand only very alowly. thus indicating that the season is drawing t-> a close. Lori-l-m cable advices announce that the first series of public sale-5 for the present year will ooen on 28th February. Tho quantity to be submitte 1 i' ; restricted to 300.000 ImUm. Grass Seed.—Rye grass is In fair demand at 4s to 4s 3d for well-dressed parcels. Several lots have already been quitted at •hese quotations. Inferior lots are difficult to place at over 3s 6d. Cocksfoot is reported to have suffered extremely, both in quantity and quality, from the recent variable weather. Deliveries of new crop have scarcely yet begun; prices range from 3£d to 4d delivered in Lyttelton.
