AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.
Messrs !!. Matson and Co. report on the Live Stock Market, etc., for the week end ing Thursday, February i)th, 1882, as follows :—At yesterday's -iddiugtou market about 7000 sheb-p were penned for the day's sale, fu'ly three fourths of which were, store-*. The noticeable absence of butcher's sheep can only be accounted for by the fact of farmers being too busy with harvest operations to pay attention to stock matters, and the " lucky few " who happened lo have mutton in the yards yesterday were rewarded by a ready clearance of all lots, atan advance of Is Gd to 2a per head on rrosshreds, 6d to Is on merinos. Prime crossbred wethers brought 11'? to 12s 9*l ; ewes, 9* to 12s; merino WHtlrWs 7s to 7s 9d. Kven at these prices half the trade were unable to supply tbem-fc-elves, and the comparatively large entry of fat lambs were qniek'y bought up as a substitute for mutton at. a rise of Is per head. The best lines brought as high as 10s, which price was paid for a few pens of grand quality s nl to hand by Mr 11. Overton. Medium lots 7s 0d to Ss ; inferior to 7s. In store sheep there was an exceptionally large entry of the most saleable consignments that have been limno-hf into the market this season. As
and of f.'-'out 3000 mixed o'a-ses offered by J us on Wednesday, there was only one KinfTl linrj u-i'bdrawn ; over 2000 merino vvclhi-r*- (smiel mouthed,) bi-in;-, placed at fn.m 4-i 5d to 4s 9d ; aged and crossbred (JVV to G-* 9d ; merino cull, to 3s Gd. As a whole tin* -been safe was the most sue-ress-ful h<-h! tor the I'-ist six months. ll fat cattle thee was a larger ••ntry than on the previous welc. For the best quality a g.od demand was shown, and nearly every lot sold at prices above the, nveraye of the past month's rates. Medium weight steers brought £1 to £8 ; prime heavy weights, £8 to £9 ; heifers, etc., £6 to £7 10s.' In the store cattle trade there is now more enquiry, the sliowe-y weather of the past fortnight and the opening up of the stubbles having brought a few buyers into tin-, market. As harvest further progresses there is every probability of the dem ml inc-iensi g. and we anticipate a better sale for store stock during the next three weeks than there has been for many months' past. The totals yarded for the day comprised — 7107 sheep, 269 cattle, and GO pigs.
