Owing to the Christmas holidays, the trade generally i.s quiet, but we understand that our woollen manufacturers in the north have a large number of orders on hand, and stocks, therefore, will no doubt be considerably reduced before the February sales are open. Total 24 728 To which must be added 10,000 bales wool sent ii: and withdrawn at tbe last sales. TALLOW AND HIDES The demand for Au.-tralirui tallow has •been good throughout, the mouth, the sales, publicly "ml privately, having amounted to 3500 casks. Mutton lias been scarce of 'late, and tire value has advanced considerably, quotations being 42s to 44s tj.l for fsmul ro line, which is 3s to 4s per cwt .learer. 8.-ef, however, has only slightly hardened, the value of fair to fine quality being 37s Gd to 395. which is about 3d per cwt deaier. The imports have heen IoG3 casks, and the stock this day in importers' hands anni.iils to about 2800 ea.-ks. The, demand for Australian hides has been restricted, and though the quantity offered has been small, it has been difficult to effect sales, and prires to-day cannot Ire quoted hig.ie.r than sgd for heavy ox and s£d to s ; {-d per lb for light and cows. .B.iuk rate. 5 per cent.
