WOOLLEN FACTORY. Wellington, January 11

The following resolution was passed at a meeting of the provisional directors

of tho New Zeala d Woollen Factory Company, held yesterday—" Owing to the lack of interest displayed by tiie public, and want of response to the application for shares, the project to form a wo'ollea factoiy company in Wellington on the basis suggested, be for a time abandoned." The postal authorities state that the letter portion of the San Francisco mail will arrive at Lyttelton; on Saturday morning. Newspapers and books portion on Tuesday, THE EXHIBITION. Now that Mr Twopenny of Joubert and Twopenny has arrived in Christchurch, public expectation is excited as to which site will be chosen for the erecaon of the Exhibition buildings. It is believed that through the insufficient number of carpenters here, the Exhibition can hardly be opened as soon as expected. OBITUARY. It is rumored that an old Christchurch identity, Mr C.Kiver, died this afternoon. CRICKET. Dunedin, Januavy 11. The English cricketers arrived to-day by steamer, except Shrewsbury and Lilywhite, who came on by train. Tiie weather promises fine for the match, which begins to-morrow. NEW INDUSTRY. The New Zealand Fruit Preserving Company opened their works to-day, a quantity of jam being tinned out in the presence of a number of visitors.
