Captain Clogstoun so much liked and respected in Canterbury died from heart disease.

The latest and most novel phase of " Boy cotting " has recently been exemplified in a parish near Mallow. County Cork. The night before the day appointed for the marriage, tbe bride-elect was waited upon by a number of members of the local Land League, who informed her that, should she marry the intended bridegroom, both she and all her family would be equally " Boycotted." So great was the persuasion brought to bear upon her, that the poor girl has broken off, or at least postponed, the match.

Lyttelton Regatta.—The four-oared outrigger race (s iys Wednesdays Press) came off last night. The wind was strong from the north-west, off the land, and the waterthough comparatively lumpy overthe course, was by no means such as to inter l'ere with the progress of the race. Tbe crews were anxious for the fray—the Dunedin boys particularly—they having been put to considerable inconvenience and delay. Four bouts entered—Dunedin, Heathcote, Illysus, and Cam—and all came punctually and to tho starters' flag at 613 p.m. The distance was about two miles, ar.tl the favorites i'rorw the stait, the Kaipoi boat Cam, held the lead right through winning at 6.23 50. The Christch'.rch boat Illysus was live seconds later and the Lyttelton crew in the Heathcote seven seconds astern of the winning boa. The four-oared inrigger race, which like the previous one, had been postponed from the previous day on account of the weather, was started by Mr Packard at 7.34. The course was the same as the outriggers, two mile--. Nil Desperandum, of Dunedin ; Arawata. of Lyttelton ; nnd the Christchurch crew in the Ripple, con— testf'd the honors. The Ripple kept clear of her opponents throughout the race. A foul occurred between the other two off Baker's point, resulting in a protest being entered by the Dunedin Crew. The race finished in grand style at 7.46, the judge's flag failing as the Arawata passed the stand The Christchurch and Dunedin boats were so close together that a tie wa<declared.
