CRICKET MATCH.

Akaroa V. Li me River,

The team left Akaroa about 7.30 a.m. yesterday, and having been met at Barry's Bay by Mr Lee with his well known buggy a star was immediately made for the scene of action. On arriving at the ground they were mot by their hosts, who gave a most cordial welcome to one and all. Before proceeding to criticise the play, let us thank our hosts ior the hospitable manner in which they entertained us, and we may be sure that the " Akaroa muffs " will remember this as one of the pleasantest day'n spent in Little Rivor. The wickets were pitched at 1C 45; the ground was in excellent condition, and showed plainly that Jmuch cure and trouble inuet have been taken in procuring such a true and playable wicket. 'i'he rlefii-ioii o£ the umpires gave every satisfaction, one of whom we fancy in his younger days must have handled the willow. Our genial skipper, 0. Henning, having lost the toss we were considerately put in by our opponents. The play of the Akaroa team showed plainly that they were out of practice, but notwithstanding the very good trundling of J. Reynolds they managed to knock up 38. The play of Messrs Hargraves and Taylor was the chief feature of the innings. At the first attempt the Little River team compilod 52 by" steady play, and to Mr R. Harley and Messrs Buchanan and J, Reynolds, more than a passing word of praise must be given for their stubborn defence. On the Akaroa side the bowling of G. A. Taylor was not to be played with, he securing 8 out of 10 wickets. He bowls with a high delivery, good length and break. On Akaroa again taking up the willow the first few wickets fell rapidly until the arrival of G. Robinson, who by dint of hard hitting and through the courtesy of ene of the team, compiled 35 in the nick of time. The fielding of the Home team was on the whole decidedly good, very few runa wore unnecessarily lost, and extras which generally top up heavily were conspicuous by their absence, thanks to the longstopping of H. D. Buchanan. The wickets of the Littl* River team fell rapidly at first, but a somewhat determind etand was made and maiden after maiden was Bent down until a dissolution was affected by the bowling of Mr Harley. The game towards the finish was very exciting, but the bowling and fielding of the visiting team, who were now on their metal was not to be denied, they won an exciting game by five runs. Three hearty cheers having been given to the visitors and three times three returned, the buggy and freight was soon on its way home, and finally the tesm landed At the jetty at 8 p.m., having spent one of the moat enjoyable days imaginable.
