HEAD OF THE BAY RACES.
Stewards—Messrs 11. Buchanan. S. Lee, J. Barker, and A. E. Hay. Judge— Mr J. Sunekell. Starter —Mr S. Johnson. Clerk of Course-—Mr J. Wallis. Treasurers—Messrs S. Lee and T. Brooks. Clerk of Scales—Mr Spurr.
These Races took plaoe yesterday. Thanks, no doubt, to tbe fine day, there was an attendance of fully 500 persons. Tbe sport was fair, every race being hotly contested. There being no nominations, there were post entries for every race, and a nniform sum of £5 was given to each of tho winners. The tide suited admirably, allowing every event to come off, but the course was a bit rough in places, giving the strongest horse the best chance. There was no display of jockey costumes except in one _ instance, and tho racing was really genuine, every rider going for it eyes out. Amongst the haGks that competed, the only one that showed any sign of preparation "was • a bay, named " Romping Boy," who, thanks to his training pulled off the Wainui Plate and Publicans' Purse. There were a row of booths between Mr Brook&'s Hotel and Mr Lee's stables,' and they seemed to be well patronised. Mr Brooks did an excellent trade, the accommodation of his house beink_
