ANNUAL MEETING.

This meeting took place at noon on Wednesday. Present—His Worship the Mayor and Crs Adams, McGregor, Chamberlain, Brown, Cullen, Black, and Meech. A letter of apology from Cr Bruce was read, MINUTES. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed.' CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read from the Colonial Secretary, acknowledging the intimation that Mr Adams, sheep fanner, had been elected Mayor. DECLARATION. The first was to increase tbe Town Clerk's salary. That gentleman did his business in such a highly efficient manner that he thoroughly deserved some recognition of his services. The second was to give the Mayor a honorarium. The expenses incurred in bein_, Mayer were large, and few burgesses could stand them. During his year of office he had been perpetually putting his hands in his pockets. It was a, heavy drag on any man, in fact, so heavy that he felt he could never attempt ihe offico again financially. He wished every success to the new Mayor, in whom lie had every faith. He believed the Council had a thoroughly good head, and he hoped they would treat him well and pull well together. Mr Adams was a good man anol true, and when he said a good man and true he meant a good burgess and true. He again thanked them for the great kindness and courtesy they had shown him in the past.

Cr Adams said that before the Mayor retired from the chair he should like to. say a word or two. Mr Garwood had fulfilled his duties so much to the satisfacfaction of the public, that he bad been praised not by a few, but from every quarter. He only regretted that Mr Garwood could not be persuaded to retain the Mayoral chair. He begged to move ' That in appreciation of the ability and act of Mr Garwood's conduct during

He/ was sorry that from business reasons Mr Garwood had been obliged to refuse the,, almost unanimous wish that he should retain the Mayoral chair another year, but he hoped to see' him in the future again take that position which he had filled with such tact, kindness, and abi.ity. The resolution was then put and carried unanimously. . - Cr Adams then took bis seat as Mayor, He said that he would use l.jr best endeavors to carry oiit the duties'of the office fairly and properly.
