This school oommitte met on Monday last. Present—Messrs Fitfon, Olphert, Tyson, Greenland, G. W. Joblin, J. Reynold, and Mr W. Coop, Chairman.

The Chairman read a letter from Mr Montgomery, enclosing a cheque for 3 guineas to be expended in prizes for the school children ; also letters from the Board of Education, notifying appointment of Mr Proudlock, and an application from Mr Holruos, soliciting , payment for vvnrk done by him in the school ground ; also two letters, from Mr Proudlock, ono requesti g the committee to urge upon the Board of Education the necessity to have the new house for the master proceeded with at once, as the distance from the old school house to the new school was a cause of much inconvenience to him. The second letter had reference to a srhool reserve, wherein he wished to put his horse ' he also applied for a well to be provided.

It was resolved that Mr Montgomery's donation be acknowledged with thanks. Ah regarded the letter of Mr Holmes, the Chairman said the amount due to him was

£4 19-*, but that"it),ai|tlition to this tb.ee were seme other small Recounts which were to be added which were .incurred at the time of the flood, when-the'fence was washed away, and for the planting of 500 trees that had been received from the Akaroa Domain Hoard. The total of, these accounts ammounred to upwards of £12. The Boa d of Education had re.fused to be responsible for the cost of planting the trees, but he liad explained the matter to Mr Montgomery on* the occasion of big last.rvieitj and hoped he would induce the Board to reconsider the matter. >

It was then resolved that a further application be made to the Board on the subject.

With reference to the application respecting the new school house to be built, it was resolved to forward it to the Board endorsed by the committee.

„ Mr Fitton thought that a well would have to be provided, he did not think the cost would be much, as plenty of water could he obtained at a depth of 8 or 10ft. Mr G. W. Joblin also thought that a w«ll would have to be made. Hβ was of opinion that £5 would be sufficient to defray the cost.

The Chairman wished to know if Mr Joblin would undertake to do the work for that sum, lining the well with bricks and putting a lid to it.

Mr Joblin would not say he could do it for that amount without further calculation, but he would supply the bricks for 30s.

The Chairman said he would giro' the bricks. ,

It was resolved to apply to the Board respecting the well. Some small accounts amounting to £514s were then ordered to be paid, and the master was authorised to exchange the ink wells for some of a moie suitable character, much waste and dirt resulting from those in use. After this the subject o£ the school stores was discussed. ■ '■:•

The Chairman said this account was in a muddle and always had beon. Hβ thought that those concerned must have preferred muddle, ;

Mr Olphert was not satisfied with existing arrangements. He was, of opinion that nothing for use in the school should be obtained direct by the mister, but that when anything was required- application should be made to the commitW at their usual meeting, and they could then give the requisite orders. Mr Fit&tf thought that a regulation of the kind had been made, but was not observed. After considerable discussion 'he store list was passed as correct. Mr Olphe» - t wished to, know what was to bo done about a treat for the children. He thought that the holidays should not pass without one. The Chairman sail the children had just had one treat, and too many holidays by far They had now to see about w<sik. Mr Greenland thought there ought to be> a holiday, as al this teason the children would be expecting it. They might get 'it up by adopting a course similar to "that pursued laat your : appoint a committee of management, and collect subscriptions to defray the cost incurred. Hβ had £1 lls in hand from the l.ist year's subscriptions. Mr Olpheit wis of the same opinion. The cricket ground might be obtained from Mr Buchanan, and sports for the children he arranged. They hnd collected £14 cash List Christmas for a like purpose, pikl prizes might be given to those who excelled in the sport>". Finally a coMimittee was appointed, consisting or! Messrs Greenland. Olphoit, Fitton, Tyson, Reynolds and Proudlock, lo collect subs'Ti'pMons and carry out the necoessary jirrangements and fix the day. The subject if the attendance of the scholars was then discussed and very much dissatisfaction expressed. 61 wore now attending, but many were absent who ought to he at school. It was resolved to defer the matter till the nest meeting, but the feeling appeared to be unanimous as to the expediency of putting the compulsory clause of the ordinance into operation, and the necessity for obtaining the aid of the police in its enforcement. Mr Holt then made a complaint of illtreatment received by his son from one of the other school boys. The complaint he alleged had been made to the master, who'had not paid attention to it. Enquiries were promised and the meeting terminated.
