ROAD BOARD ABOLITION.
To the Editor
Sir.—Considerable surprise has been caused amongst the electors in this district on reading the very extraordinary statement made by Mr William Barnett at tho meeting of the County Council, vis., " That there were many in his neighborhood anxious for what he terms the abolition of the Road Board." Now, so far from this being the case Mr Barnett was returned as our member to the Council on the express understanding that ho was,to resist all and every attempt in that direction, and also the imposition of any rate by tbe Council as long as the Road Boards continued to impose rates. Had the electors supposed tlirft Mr Barnett meant to deliver himself of such a maiden speech on this his first appearance in tha Council, the poll would have shown a very different result ; as it is, we have been deceived and are now more than ever convinced that a little learning is a very dangerous thing indeed, ¥onrs, etc., — ELECTOR. Le Bon's, Nov. 26, 1881.
