LITTLE RIVER RAILWAY.
At Mr Montgomery's meeting at Little River on Saturday, Mr Coop stated that Mr Allan had received a letter from the Ptemier, saying another section of the Little River Railway would be commenced. Mr Montgomery then said that he bad written to the Premier on the subject, and had no doubt that when he got to Chnstchurch he would find a letter announcing the fact. On arrival in Christchurch, however, he found a letter to the effect that the question was to be submitted to the Government. Surprised that the member for the district had not been communicated with on so important a matter, he telegraphed to the lion. John Hall in Dunedin, and received a reply yesterday, Any further'communications on the subject will be forwarded by Mr Montgomery to this jonrnal for publication. The following is the correspondence on the subject so far. Telegram from Mr N. W. Blair, dated. 19th November :—
'' Sorry for delay in answering telegramIt had been decided on. I think the request of the residents to make a temporary terminus at Lake Forsyth sent. I understand Government is going on with further section. I suggest, however, that you should see Premier on whole subject."
Mr Montgomery than wrote to the Premier, and received the following reply :—
" The Premier directs me to acknowledge his receipt of your letter of the 19th, informing him of the resolution recently adopted by the Akaroa County Council; in' favor of an extension of the Akaroa Rail - way, and hoping that the work should be proceeded »vith without delay. I am to assure you, in reply, that Mr Hall will submit the question to the Government as cirly as is possible."
On the 29th Mr Montgomery telegraphed as follows :—
'• Mr Allan caused an announcement to be made at my'meeting at Little River on Saturday, that he bad received an official letter stating that another section of the line to Little River would be gone on with immediately. Will you do me the favor of informing me if that statement was correct? Your private secretary's letter to me of the '23rd does not convey that information."
Yesterd iy be received the following answer: —
" Little Rivr R ilway.—Will telegraph to department. Probably what you refer to has resTulti-d from some communication since I left Wellington.—JbilN Hall,"
