Large Eel.—A silver eel weighing nearly Gibs was caught on Friday in the little creek running past Bruce's Hotel.

HoßTicoi/raiiAL Snow.—Mr G-. A. Reid, of Christchurrh, has consented to net as one of the judges at the ensuing Horticultural Show.

Boat Sailing.—At the late trial of speed between the boats of Messrs W. B. Tosswill and T, S. Baker.it is only fair to record that Mr TosswilPs boat had not been cleaned for three weeks.

St Peter's Church. —The parishioners of St Peter's will be glad to heai that Mr Stocker is going to remain in Akaroa. It is to be hoped that Churchmen generally will make an effort to show their appreciation of Mr Stacker's choice by subscribing more liberally to the stipend fund than they have hitherto done.

Dangerous.—On Sunday evening a gentleman walking along, the beach just past Chamberlain's toward Green's Point, set fire to. a heap of brushwood to amuse a child The fire burnt furiously and there was of course considerable danger of the sparks that were flying igniting the grass in the neighborhood. At this season of the year people can hardly be too cautious in starting a fire as it is far easier to tell where it will begin than where it will stop.

The Guthrie Testimonial.—Mr Garwood and Co.'s window is looking exceedingly gay just at present. In addition to the Regatta cup, the clock and vases which are to be given to Dr Guthrie are on view, and also an address to the same gentleman beautifully.* illuminated by Mr Goodman, of Christchurch. The clock and vases are in the styie of the Renaissance, of porcelain and ormolu, and look as if they might have adorned a boudoir at Versailles, or the Petit Trianon during the reign of Louis Quatorze.

The Farmers' Club.—A meeting is called for Saturday next at the Somerset Hotel, Head of the Bay. The returns for the cheese by the Orari have been received by the Hon Secretary, and though by no means satisfactory, there is at any rate a small margin lefc It is a great pity some arrangements cannot be made for a larger number of exhibits of cheese and other produce being shown at the Industrial Exhibition on the Anniversary day, and we think that this and the question of getting a ship to visit Akaroa, to load at least a portion of her cargo direct, should be subject for discussion at the meetintr.

Okain's Bay.—An entertainment was given in the schoolroom, Okain's Bay, on Friday evening, the 25th inst., in aid of the school prize fund. The following is the programme:—Mr 11. Sefton, song, " The Drunkard's Dream ;" Mr J. Moore, recitation. " Curiosity ;" Mr C. Mooro. song, "Massa with a Muifstash ;" Mr Hutt. reading ; Misses Hutt and Priest, duct; Mr C. Moore, reading from Max A.deler's '• Ingenious Tramp ;"' Mr J. Hutt, song, '■ Don't put the poor Working Man down ;"' Mr J. Moore, song, "Because I'm np a Tree ;" Mr Hutt, reading ; Mr .Bird), sons - , " The Old Mill Stream ;" Miss Hutt, recitation, Longfellow's " Oid (Jloek on the Stairs;" Mr C. Moore, song, '' Yonder cornea a weary Soldier;'' Mr G. Mason song, "Bel. MahoneV Reply,;'' Miss E. Hutt, reading ; Mr H. Sefton, song, "Hear good will to all men ;" Mr G. Mason, song, " What 'should make thee sad. my Darling ;" Mr Hutt, reading ; Mr J. Hutt, song. " Reply to the Gipsy's Warning ;" Mr A. Birch, song. " Medicine Jack." The proceeds amounted to £3 3s. After the programme had been gone through, several of the younger folk remained to a dance, which was kept up for several houra.

Akaroa. Regatta.—A meeting o£ the committee was held on Friday evening , , at the Borough Council Chambers. Present— Messrs W. B. Tosswill (commodore), Stocker, Black, Henning, Lα Goste, Westenra, Adams, Armstrong , , and Jacobson. The minutes having been confirmed, correspondence was read, From Mr Frank Pavitt, promising to act as starter if possible. From the Town Clerk, giving the Regatta Committee the use of the Borough Reserve adjoining the Jetty Reserve, in Beach road, for Regatta day. ' From Mr Bick, traffic manager Canterbury Railways, consenting to run an excnrshn train «t 7 a.m. ou December 16th, from Christchuich, to Lyttolton, if the committee would guarantee £3 10s. From Mr H. 11. Fenton, promising to act as one of tlia judges if possible. From Messrs F. Oakden and J. Robinson, re their respective yachts Mr Henning announced that the Union Company had kindly promised to carry boats intending to compete at the Regatta free of charge. It was resolved to write to Mr Puflett, agent of the Union S.S,. Company in Lyttalton, to arrange for the steamer to start not later than 7.30 a.m. on Regatta day from Lyttelton. The hon. sec. reported that Messrs J. Ayliner and Wcleh had consented to act as judges. Messrs P. Cunningham and Sims had.'declined, .and Mr Hawkins had not written, It was unanimously resolved to request Messrs W. Masefield, Wilkins, and Hargreavesto act as additional judges. Messrs La.Coste, 11. Aylmer, and Adams were appointed a sub-committee to measure off Reserve, and also to act as yacht measurers. On the motion of Mr Stocker it was resolved—" That the Borough Reserve be divided into three parts, and that Mr McGregor ba requested to advertise them for see on Saturday, December 3rd." It was arranged to ask Messrs Noonan and Kissel to ant as signalman and collector on Regatta day, and also to procure flags bearing number of races, for committee ship, and starter's flag and distinguishing lings for buoys, from Mr Noouan. The hon. sec. was instructed to write to the Harbor Master requesting him to grant the use of the Government lifeboat for a starter's boat on Reg-tta day. Messrs Stocker, Henning, and Black were appointed ft committee to arrange regarding I ii.ncheon on committee ship. Messrs Westenra and G-. Armstrong were appointed a committee to got tho necessary buoys prepared, and the Commodore and Messrs Black and La Coste to see them properly placed. A voto of thanks was passed to Messrs Black and Jacobson for presenting the committee with distinguishing ribbons. The hon. sec.stated thataome ladies of Akaroa had resolved to present a champion flag to the winning yacht. The meeting thon adjourned.

Petty Larceny.—Yesterday two lads were arrested on a charge of theft. The case will he heard in the Court this morning.

Vestry Meeting.—A vestry meeting to consider a letter from the Primate, respecting the Rev. Harry Stacker's remaining in Akaroa, and to transact other business, will be held on Tuesday next.

Akaroa Rowing Cmjb.—•A Committee meeting of the above Club was held last evening; at Mr Grange's Hotel. Mr Garwood (Vice-PreeiVen ), in the chair. The acting Secretary leal the minutes of/the last meeting which were confirmed. Correspondence in m the Union and Canterbury Rowing Clubs, Christchurch, and from Messrs G, H. Pearse and W. H. Imnce of Lyttello i, offering boats for sale was then read. The acting Secretary stated that a stump-outrigger suitable for entry in two of the races had been purchased for the sum of £17. Two new members were, proposed and elected. Mr Culbert was elected secretary. It was decided to name the boat the " Onuku." A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Lance of Lyttelton for the trouble he had taken on behalf of the Club, and the meeting adjourned till Dec. 13th.
