Messrs. 11. Matt on and Co report on the Live !St( ck niarke &c, for the week ending riiuisday, November ;5, as follows : — In consequence nf the announcement of 1 here being no pale at Addington during the forthcoming week, a crowded Mipp'y was sent forward yesterday, both llib sheep and cattle market being the bfaviest we have hod for six months past. 'The general quality of the stock on offer wns esp cially good, mutton being, quite up to the average, whilst tho entry of fat and store cattle was the best penned this season. At the commencement of the sheep sale there were present, a large attendance of local and country buyers, and from the beginning to the close of the auction, biddings came freely, the various lots of fat sheep changing owners without difficulty at pri.es about the same as last week. Prim'; cross-bred wethers in the wool (Gould and Cameron's) brought 17s; ewes, 15s. A sinnll pun of picked shorn cross-bred wethers, fyr the same owners, 17s ; merino wethers, 11 a Gil. The average price for shorn cros.\-breii wethers was from 11s Gd to 12s G'l ; mixed lines, ds to 10m Gd : merino wet how, 7s 6d. In stores, a considerable number was penned, and *tho bulk sold, fro.-s-l;red owes and lnnihs in the wool, at 13s to 15s per couple; merino do, 10.3 to 12s 3d. Fresh conditioned hcggPis mid 2 or 4 tooth crossbreds, 11s u> 12-< ; merino .wethers, Bs. to 'tis ; shorn niPiiuo wethers, ssto 6s ; crossbieds, to 7s 6d, recording to age and ■condition. Of fat lambs there was not a particularly large supply, and in view of the approaching "festive week," they ■were evident!) , wanted, the. demand being brisk, and higii prices being the order of the day. The best lines brought 8s to IDs; inferior lo's, Gs to 7s. The fat cattle sale, although perhaps a little easier in (prices than last week, must stil! be considered satisfactory as out of a very largo supply there were scarcely any unsold. A ■]me or! chouse Devons, sent to hand by Mr E. Heece, were especially admired, and -commanded a lot of attention. A.s far as quality is concerned, they were siinp'y (perfection, and sold readily at from £8 5s to £11 per head. Pri.ne steers, of other t'lnsses and heavier weights brought from £8 10a to £10 10s ; heifers, etc.. £G lUs to £8. Oil store entthi the sale in poinr of quantity, quality, and price, was in rked by an improvement, as out of a full market of good young stock, nearly every line was sold at fair values. The 'totals yarded for the day comprised 8947 -•sheep, 681 head of cattle, and 188 pigs.

The competition was spirited and weli maintained throughout, and the pi ices were on an average equal n> las' week's rates. Butchers' cross-bred, large, 4d G-s 7d, Gs lid ; do, do, medium. 3d Gd, 4s 6d, 5s 4d, b's 4d ; do, do, small, 2s 9d. 3s Gd ; do merino, large, 5s 10il, Gs 2d, Gs 7d ; do do, second quality, :•>.•*, 4s 4 !. 5h 10d ; do lambskins, Is G>l, Is 7d, Is Ud ; do pelts. 10d, IM, Is Id. Country cross-bred, large, 5s lid, Gs 4(1, G; 8d ; dodo, second quality, 2s Gd, 3s 6d, 4s 3d, 5s 3d, 5s lid ;do dc, small Is 9d, 2s 61; do nieiino, large, 5s 31. 5s lid, Gs 3d ; do do, second qudity, 2s 2d, 3s, 4s Id. 5-i 3d. Fat and Tallow—We catalogued and disposed of 73 packages. There was a decline or' £ of a penny per lb lor fat compared with last week's rale. Fat— Best quality, clean and well-saved, to 2|d per lb ; second, to 2d per lb ; inferior, at Id per lb. Tallow—A few small packages at 10-» per cwt, and 2£d per lb. Hides— Sound 4d per !ii, and 4£d per lb for a line of honvy hides ; damaged, weighing 55lbs, at 2-id per lb. Cilfskius—Sound at 4d ipor ll> ; do. cut and otherwise damaged, nt 2d per lb. N.B.—We beg to inform our clients th it in consequence of the Canterbury Agricultural Siiow arnl Kaces occurring next week, wo shall not hold our Kdle of sheepskins, fat, etc , on Thursday, Nov. ,10.
