Licensing Court.—The quarterly licensing Court is advertised for Tuesday, Dec. 6th. Public Ball.—A public ball is announced to take place on Wednesday Soy. 9th, in the Town Hall. County Council Election.— The date at which iioi.iin.'t'ious close for the Tai Tapu, Port Victoria, Port Livy, and Little River Ridings appear el-ewlrre. Okain's Bay R>ai) Board.—There was no meeting of the Okain's Bay Road Board on Saturday last, the ordinary day of assembling, tne meeting having been ad•jourded till Saturday next. This Representation of Beraud.—A correspondent points out the advantage of having a public meeting, at which the various candidates for the representation of the Berard district in the County Council can express their views. More Candidates for the County Council. —Messrs W. T. Masefield and George Armstrong announce themselves as candidates for the seat for the Berard Riding in the County Council. Mr Brooks will stand for tbe Wainui Riding, and Mr John E. Thacker for the Le Bon's Bay. Ob.tuary.—Mr Alex. Mcintosh, an old Peninsula settler, died at hie residence in Christchurch on Saturday, at the age of 82. Mr Mcintosh and his family arrived in the Colony in 1840, and in 1848 settled in the bay that bears his name, being the first resident in that locality. Mr Mcintosh was widelyJ-uiow v aud will be much regretted. The Akaroa Seat.—Our Little Akaloa correspondent writes informing us that a deputation went down by the p.s. Titan to Little Akaloa to ask Mr Menzies to come forward aud contest the representation of Akaroa with Mr Montgomery. Our correspondent does not inform us of the result of the interview, but states that Mr Fonion headed the deputation. Wreckage.—Captain Neilson, of the Amateur, on his passage from Lyttelton here, had to put in at Little Akaloa through stress of weather, and while there, picked up a head board of a vessel with " Star of the Mersey," in gold lettering on it. From the size of the head board it is *-*upposed to belong to a barque or vessel of that description, but does not bear the appearance of wreckage, as it has evidently been washed clean away.

The PENi-ssu/iA Railway.—Cn Friday last the first goods train started from the Lake Forsyth terminus for Christchurch. It consisted of 30 trucks loaded with wool belonging to Messrs Coop and Birdling, and totara posts sent by Mr G. R. Joblin. The value of the goods was estimated at £3000. Mrs W.Coop and others were present to witness the'departiire of the first train, and " Success to the Peninsula Railway" was drunk in the customary champagne.

Accident.—An accident happened to Mr G. Lardner yesterday morning while he was driving his dray, with 3 sacks of potatoes in it, up Ayhner's road. He had some difficulty to get his horse along, but after a short standstill the horse made a dart forward, knocking Mr Lardner down, and the wheel of the dray passed over his body. He was able to get home, and Dr Singleton attended bim shortly after the accident, and informs us that the injury is not likely to be serious.

Excursion.—The Union s.s. Co. advertise an excursion trip to the Christchurch show and races. The s.s. Wanaka will leave here on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 6 a.in,, so as to catch the 11.20 a.m. train from Lyttelton to Christchurch. The pleasure seekers can return by the s.s. Wanaka on Thursday, Nov. 10. As will be seen by advertisement, the return fare (saloon) will only be a pound, so no doubt many will avail themselves of this capital opportunity of visiting Christcliurcli during the carnival week.

Pigeon Bay.—Our Pigeon Bay conespondent writes : —At a, meeting hold in the schoolroom on the 29th inst, it was resolved that a committee be formed to secure the services of an excursion steamer on the occasion of the A. and P. Associations annual show, to be __held ou Nov. 9th, at Christchurch. At a meeting of the committee held afterwards, it was agreed that the p.s. Titan, 'no chartered for the day named, leaving Pigeon Bay at 7.30 a.m. for Lyttelton, and returning from Lyttelton at about 6.30 p.m. same day. Particulars of fares, etc., appear in advertisement.

Good Templary in Akaroa. — The quarterly meeting of the Akaroa Hope Lodge, 1.0. G.T. was held on Friday evening last. Reports of committees appointed to arrange for the social gathering to be held to celebrate the anniversary were presented and approved. Tenders for the catering were opened and that of Mr C. Gut berlet accepted. The election of officer for the ensuing term was then proceeded with. The following were elected:— W.O.T. Bro Bruce, W.V.T. Bro Newton, W.S. Bro W. Jolly, jun., W.F.S. Bro Giles, VV.T. Bro Armstrong, W.M. Bro Watkins, W.J.G. Bro Turner, P.W.G.T. Bro Burke. Bros. Bruce, Armstrong and Burke were re-elected trustees. After the lodge had been duly closed, a degree meeting was held, when the record degree was conferetl upon two members. ,

The Melbourne Derby;—Tuis race was won by Darebin in 2min 4Usecs. Santa Clans was second and Commotion third. Somnus, the New Zealand horse, ran well to tho distance post, when he collapsed. Le Bon's Bay Athletic Spouts.—An entertainment in aid of these sports will take place in the Le Bon's Bay school room on Friday, Dec. 2. The performance will consist of the great American temperance drama '-Ten Nights in a Bar-room." Pigeon Bay R.M. Court.—The case Pitcaithly v. James Hay was commenced yesterday, at II a.m., Mr John Holmes appearing for the plaintiff, and Mr Stringer for tbe defendant, Ten witnesses were examined, iucluding the defendant, but owing to the amount of evidence to be taken the case was adjourned till to day. Le Bon's Riding County Election.—The nomination of candidates for the office of County Councillors for the Le Bon's Riding, was held at the Library, Le Bon's Bay, yesterday, and it will be seen from our official notices of the Council elections that Messrs Thacker and Barnett were nominated. This is the first nomination for lhe Council, and the candidates strange to say, are, we understand, standing on the same ticket, viz :—a modified system of Road Boards under more complete control of the Council. Mr Barnett requests the electors to meet bim at the Le Bon's Bay Schoolroom on Tuesday evening, November Bth, in order that he may explain his views to them.
