I 3El«cti'im "nroticc!* TO THE RATEPAYERS AND ELECTORS OF THE BERARD RIDING. ENTLEMEN—At the request of \JX several electors of this Riding I have agreed to become a candidate to represent it in the County Council. Should you do me the honor to elect me, I shall do my best to get the Council to work as an administrative body only, without making use of its rating powers. By forwarding the interests of Berard, and constant attention to all local matters, and by giving a careful and independent consideration to all county questions to the best of my ability, I hope to gain your confidence. Yours obediently, E. S. CHAPPELL. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE BERARD RIDING. HAVING been asked by a number of the Electors of the Berard Riding to come forward as a candidate for the forthcoming County Council Election, I beg respectfully to state that if elected 1 shall do my best to forward the interests of the Peninsula. W. T. MASEFIELD. October 31st, 1881. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE BERARD RIDING, COUNTY OF AKAROA. ENTLEMEN,—I intend offering \JT my services to you at tho coming Election for tho above Riding. * My opinion is that the Council should take.more energetic action in the promotion of public works, especially roads and bridges to open up the resources of the County, and that the special claims of the County should he more energetically pressed on the Government, with a view to that object. Should you elect me, your interests and that of the County will be faithfully guarded, and rigid economy kept in view. Yours faithfully, GEO. ARMSTRONG. Akaroa, 31st October, 1881. TO THE RATEP \YERS OF THE BERARD RIDING, IN THE COUNTY OF AKAROA. ENTLEMEN—I beg to offer my \JT services to represent you in the County Council. If you do mc the honor to elect me, I shall endeavor to act faithfully in your interests. GEORGE H. SAXTON, Robinson's Bay. TO THE RATEPAYERS OE THE BERARD RIDING, IN THE COUNTY OE AKAROA. I BEG most respectfully to say that I shall offer my services as a Candidate for the Berard Riding, in the County of Akaroa, at the forthcoming Election. In doing so I cannot say that I am in favor of the County Council in preference to the Road Board. I am at present a member of the Road Board, aud have been one of that body since its infancy. Under the circumstances I beg to say that I cannot conceive how any other body can fill the place of the Road Board, as the gentlemen I have been connected with on that body for a number of years have always been found to be most straightforward and honest in all their transactions, and in disposing of the public moneys placed under their trust. I beg* most respectfully to say that if returned I shall always endeavor to do my duty in a trustworthy manner, as I have hitherto done, and I consider it is quite time the Ratepayers had a meeting, at which all Ratepayers should att nd, to decide whether they will give up the County Council or the Road Board, for it is impossible to keep up two rating bodies. Yours respectfully, BENJAMIN SHADBOLT, Head of the Bay. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE WAINUI RIDING. ENTLEMEN,—I beg to offer you \JC my services to represent you in the County Council. If elected, it will be with the understanding that I shall do my best to get the Council to work as a distributive body only, and not to make use of its borrowing or rating powers ; for so surely as they do, the greater portion of the money will be spent on an engineering staff, and I believe wo have had [ enough of that with the Road Board - affairs. I have the honor to remain, Yours faithfully, THOMAS BROOKS. . AKAROA COUNTY COUNCIL. . TO THE ELECTORS OF THE WAINUI RIDING. a ENTLEMEN,—I intend to offer myself as a candidate for the c Wainui Riding at the forthcoming y Election of County Councillors.
