Should you do we the honor to elect me, I shall do my best to get the Council to work as an administrative body only, without making use of its rating powers. Yours obediently, E. S. CHAPPELL. TO THE RATEPAYERS OF THE BERARD RIDING, IN THE COUNTY OF AKAROA. I BEG most respectfully to say that I shall offer my services as a Can- . didate for the Berard Riding, in the County of Akaroa, at the forthcoming Election. In doing so I cannot say that I am in favor of the County Council in preference to the Road Board. I am at present a member of the Road Board, aud have been one of that body since its infancy. Under the circumstances I beg to say that I cannot conceive how any other body can fill the place of the Road Board, as the gentlemen I have been connected with on thai ', body for a number of years have always been found to be most straightforward 3 and honest in all their transactions, and 5 in disposing of the public moneys placed I under their trust. I beg most respectfully to say that i; returned I shall always endeavor to dc my duty in a trustworthy manner, as ] have hitherto done, and I consider it is r quite ti'iic the Ratepayers had a meeting, at which all Ratepayers shoulc , att nd, to decide whether they will give H up the County Council or the Roac Board, for it is impossible to keep U| two rating bodies. Yours respectfully, } BENJAMIN SHADBOLT, Head of the Bay. OKAIN'S RIDING.
