The Pigeon Bay R.M. Court.—The ■pitting of this Court at Pigeon Bay which was to have taken place on Monday next has been postponed to Monday the 31st inst., in consequence of the Supreme Court Session.

Akaroa Presbyterian Church.— Tbe Rev A. Blake met with the congregations of the 'Peninsula at Pigeon Bay, and Akaroa and Wainui on Monday and Tuesday last, for the purpose of moderating in a call to a minister. After divine service at each place, the form of call was read, and by desire of the congregation the name- of the "Rev James iSliven was inserted in the call. It was theu signed by the members and adherents present, and appears to be a very harmonious one.

County Polling Places.—Considerable surprise and dissatisfaction has been expressed by those most interested, at the way in which the County Council settled tho places for taking tho polls at the coming election for new members of that body. In tbe Okain's Riding it will be impossible for electors having the qualifications, to vote for this and the Le Bon's Bay Riding. There are a considerable number so qualified. In the Berard Riding complaints are being made, that the only polling place is fixed at the office of the Council, which is at the extreme end of the district. We had an idea tbat it was tho business of the Returning Officer to fix the polling place-, but in this we may be mistaken, at any rate it is lo be hoped that such arrangement will lie made as will rcir.ovo any cuise for grumbling.

Bank Holiday.—The Bank of New Zealand will be closed on Monday, that day being the anniversary of the opening of that institution.

Mrs R. M. Barry's Concert.—ln another part of this issue will be found the full programme of the entertainment to be given on Wednesday next in aid of Mrs R. M. Barry and her family. The Mayor and Borough Councillors have granted their patronage and a very large attendance is expected-

Regatta MEEriNG.—At the request of a number of burgesses His Worship the Mayor has convened a public meeting to take place to-night at tbe Town Hall, to consider the question of holding a regatta jn the 16th December. It is to by hoped there will be a large attendance as the matter is one very interesting to a great number of people, botli in the Eorough and County. The County Council Election.—As our readers know, we pointed out the awkwardness of the day of polling for candidates for the County Council, falling on the 9th November, the Prince of Wales's birthday and Agricultural and Pastoral show day. The Chairman wrote that he had no power to alter the Act, but the matter has been considered in other quarters nnd brought before the proper authorities, the resulj being that the election has been postponed from the 9th to the lGth of November.

Electoral.—-Candidates for seats in the Akaroa County Council are somewhat reticent as to their intentions. For the Berard Riding, as will be seen, two Riehmonds are in the field. For Le Bon's the names of three candidates are mentioned. The present member, having failed to intimate any intention of retiring, may be presumed to be a candidate. A requisition is being got up asking Mr W. Barnett to come forward, and Mr J. S. Thacker is also to be invited. Probably these gentlemen will announce their intentions definitely in a short time. From the other ridings no news of any electioneering movements is to hand. Okain's Bay.—On Monday the Bth inst. a tea-meeting was held in connection with the church at Okain's Bay. The tables were laid for the children at 5 p.m., and at a later hour for grown up persons Owing to this being a particularly busy time among dairy people, not so many as could have been wished, and as had been provided for, were able to enjoy the really capital spread However, after the room had been cleared for a social meeting and entertainment, a great number put in an appearance, and no lack of attendance could then be complained of. The Rev W. Stack opened this part of the evening's entertainment with a short address on church work in this district, expressing pleasure at this his first visit to Okain's his interest being greatly augmented by the recollection that here was the scene of the labors for so many years of his late dear friend the Rev H. Torlesse. He was. very happy to see that the good work begun by that gentleman had not sinc e been neglected, but that the people o Okain's in their efforts for education had made religious instruction their first aim • During the evening several recitations were given by the school children, and songs by Mr Hutt's class. The Rev Cruden gave a short sketch of missionary life among the Esquimaux in the fa r north, and Mr Hutt followed with an address on Church Work Societies and their objects. At the close of the meeting a collection of £2 2s was taken in aid of the Peninsula mission fund.

Akaroa Rowing Club, — A genera meeting of the above club held last evening at Mr Grange's Hotel was fairly attended, and a good deal of business was done, Mr Garwood occupying the chair. The Secretary read the minntes of the last meeting. Mr Stocker said that before proceeding to adopt rules he would like to know if the club was established for the purpose of pleasure or racing. He anticipated that the funds tha would be, at first, available for purchasing boats would have to be expended for one or the other object, as there would probably not be sufficient to purchase both. Some little discussion ensued, and finally a motion of Mr Burns to the effect that the boats to be obtained for this club, in the first place should be either pleasure or practice boats was seconded by Mr Nicholls and carried. A set of rules brought forward by the preliminary committee were then gone through, and with a few alterations and additions, adopted. Mr W. Jacobson proposed, and Mr Stocker seconded, that the secretary be instructed to write to Mr L. Ollivier, captain of tbe Canterbury Club, Christchurch, thanking him for his kind_ ness in forwarding rules and offering to give any information in his power. At a committee meeting subsequently held, Mr Stocker proposed and Mr Culbert seconded that the secretary be instructed to obtain all tbe information he could as to tbe price of boats, and to bring up an account at the next meeting. The following officers were then elected : —President, Mr Montgomery, M.H.R; Messrs Garwood and Westenra, vice-presidents ; Mr W. Jacobson, oaptain ; Mr T. Grange, jun., deputy captain ; Mr Roberts, secretary ; and MrL. Watkins, treasurer; and a working committee composed of the following gentlemen : — Messrs H. C. Jacobson, Stocker, 0. Watkins, W. G. Burns, J. Culbert, and 11. Munro. After a vote of thanks to the chairman, tbe meeting ad- | journed. •
