Dr Donnld lias resigned the Lyttelton Magistracy owing to ill health. Four more cases of small-pbx are reported from Sydney. Mr J. C. Firth, of Matamata, Ims ten acres in Sorghum, which he intends to manufacture into sugar. The Hon Major Atkinson will appear as a defendant in the R.M. Court, Wellington, this morning, on a, charge of allowing hia chimney to take firo two months ago.
The special correspondent of Iho Press telegraphed on Saturday. There is nothing fresh in Native matters. Various unfounded sensational reports are in circulation, but the situation is wholly unchanged. The Natives are quiet and making no warlike preparation. The Government are preparing actively to enforce the law as soon as they are ready to do so, which will probably not be fora little time yet.
