[from our own correspondent.] Timaru, August 8. At the Magistrate's Court to-day a young man named Thos. Ness was charged with rape.. On the application of the police be was remanded until Friday. Wanganui, August 8. Tho bos containing the silver stolen from the Stormbird was recovered by the police on Saturday night. The locality where it was found ia kept a socret, but it is believed that the box never left town. The money is safe, and the seal of the box has not been broken. Three men were arrested yesterday by Detective Sullivan, named Ilniry Williams, William Salmon, and William Green, on a charge of robbery. They were remand9d this morning at the R. M. Court for eight days pending the arrival of the cook of the Stormbird and of the witnesses on board the same steamer. Wellington, August 8. The cook of the Stormbird, Robert MeOarey, was arrested this morning on suspicion of having stolen the £400 worth of silver. Ho was brought up at the It. M. Court to-day charged, with stealing £210 in half-crowns, and £190 in shillings, tbe property oi: the owners of the Stormbird. Ho was remanded until to-morrow.
