Prosper Berland was charged with riding a mare within twelve hours after her having slipped her t'oa!. Defendant pleaded guilty, but staled tliiit he did not think the mare had been injured or distressed. He had ridden the animal very gently. The Bench said defendant. to h.ive known better than to commit stifh an act. He would 'do fined 20:? and costs. J. J. Kissel was charged with riding- n horse with a sore back. Constable Scott, gave evident of seeing a horeo tied up at defendant's place with a «ire back. Dcienda;n was bathing ita

back. He did not see defendant riding the horse. Dismissed.

CIVIL CASES. Beecher v. Atining. Claim £16 14s Gd for paddockinsj and others items. Mr Beecher was represented by his attorney, Mr W. 11. Wood. Mr Ilenning appeared for the defendant. Defendant paid £11 3s into Court, viz , £10 for G months rent, and £1 3s for sonic undisputed items. Defendant disposed that he had rented the paddock in question trom plaintiff at £20 per annum. His tenancy terminated, on the 30th April, 1880. when half a year's rent was due, which he had now paid into Court. Judgment for plaintiff: for amount paid into Court, plaintiff to pay costs. The Court then adjourned.
