London, July 6. Tenders for the two South Australian Government loans of respectively £980,000 and £390,000, which were placed on the market last week, were openel to-day. The total amount offered is £2,000,000. Tenders at £102 18s 6d will receive in full ; tenders at £102 18s will receive allotment to the extent of 61 per cent. The offers throughout average £100 19s Bd. In the House of Commons last night during the consideration of the Irish Land Bill in committee, the Right Hon W. E. Forster, Chief Secretary for Ireland, proposed as an amendment to one of the clauses, that Government should be authorised to lend one half of the arrears of Irish rents for the years 1878 and 1879, in cases where the tenants are £30 under the amount of their agreements with the landlords. The proposal was debated at some length, but its further discussion was adjourned to to-day's sitbing. In the House of Commons last night further progress was made in the consideration of the Irish Land Bill in committee. Clauses 7 to 11 were passed after debate, and progress was reported, Washington, July 6. This morning bulletin reports that General Garfield is progressing favorably towards recovery. Athens, July 5. In consequence sf intelligence received that Turkish troops have reoccupied Arta, a largo force of Greek troops is being despatched to the district. The latter have already crossed the frontier, and are rapidly advancing towards their destination. Calcutta, July 6. Intelligence is to hand from CaivJahar that serious discord has arisen among the officers of the Ameer's troops stationed at Girishk and Candahar. The dissension has been apparent for some time past, but is now daily increasing, and is creating considerable disunion in the ranks of the Ameer's army in Candahar.

London, July 4. Tne attempt on the life of the President of America has caused profound sensation throughout Europe, and universal sympathy is expressed at his present precarious condition. Washington, July 4. A bulletin issued this morning reports that president Garfield has not passed so good a night, having only dozed at intervals. He has complained of pains in the abdomen, which the doctors pronounce to be symptom 3of tympanites, or distention of the abdomen. This evening's bulletin reports that the President's condition is fluctuating ; ths symytoms of tympanites continue Further enquires into the antecedents of Gintean, the would-be assassin, prove that he has long been insane.
