PIGEON BAY ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of thin Board was held in its office on Saturday, July 2. 1881. Present —Messrs Hay (chairman) Pitcaithly, and Paton. Mr Budua was unahle to attend through indisposition. The minutes of the previous meeting were read arid confirmed. The poundkeeper handt-d in £1 7s 61 for pound dues. CORKKSrONDKNCK. Letters were read— From Mr Lyall, Sen., tendering for the supply, at £2 a piece, of two stringers for the bridge at Mr Budu i's hush below Blnegum farm. On the motion of Mr Pitcaithly, seconded by Mr Pstton, the tender was accepted ; and the Chairman was authorised to arrange for the supply of two more or four in all. It was agreed that Mr Pottigrew's offer to square each of the beams for 5s and the slabs was reasonable and ought to be accepted. From Mr Hunt for liberty to fell on the road side some pine saplings that interfered with his fencing. The Clerk was directed to write that the Board authorised him to clear away all such trees in the way of his fencing. Mr Hunt having declared to the Chairman that the state of the road leading to his place was such as to be impassable for sledges, the Board decided that the surfaceman might go there to put in culverts as soon as he could leave Paton's road.
From Messrs G. White, W. Puton and A. Kuudsen, calling tho attention of the Board to a report that Mr Holmes, agent for the Holmes estate, was about to refuse tho oilier residents of Holmes Bay the liberty of acce-s to their properties through tho said estate—thus cutting off any approach to somo thousands of acres — bought from Government on tlie understanding of having convenient entrance and egress. As two members of the Board were absent it was decided to leave over till next meeting consideration of tin's letter, and also of what rate ought to be struck i'or tlie current year. Some conversation hero ensued on the state of the roads at the top of Holmes Bay. From the surfaceman with monthly re- ' port re which it was suggested that h« ought to be askod to report regarding those under him. After passing accounts to the extent of £13 19d the Board adjourned.
