AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD v. KNIGHT.

4 ' Mr Editor, —Sir, your permission pray grant, '• On the topic above pray let me descant. j All public bodies must stand abuse ; , To object would be of little use. It's moan, Mr X ; don't vent your spleen c On a Board on which you'd like to have f been. j Mr A. C. Knight must be in a fright, Such rubbishing stuff to the paper to write ; From what he has said I have no doubt f lie feels quite ready to start up and spout, i Of ed ucat ion affaire he once had the charge ■ The knowledge he showed was not verylarge. When Provincialism was wiped away ' Mr X perforce had to say good Any I « His hopes were, shattered, uncommonly i sore. And I thought we Anould hear of him no . more ; But local aifairs have now arisen h To bring their eh am [tion out of prison, a Not long ago Air K---— in vain |, A seat on the Road Board tried to gain ; -, McDonald, you know, <AA,A.-.I him then ; Rovemre ho now seeks with the aid of his . •'• pen ; I ti

But the ratepayers showed by their voting then They believed in the British working men. Tiie grievances of which Mr X complains Clearly arise fiom his want of brains. The ratepayers' money has all been spent, On making good roads the Board has been bent ; [ may tell Mr X and bis lordly crew We can't have the money and spend it too. Mount Bossu road for Mr X was made ; He shouldn't growl though the opening's delayed ; Supposing the conveyance was signed today, There's only a " Knight " to pass that way. If the " Upper Ten " their rates wonld pay, The Board wouldn't want to beg to-day ; No need for Comity Council borrowing. No need for Road Board members sorrowing ; Wainui roads should be in repair j We are told sheep and cattle protect them there ; There are numerous gates across the track To keep X 's sheep from getting back. Mr X with the Road Board would do away ; County Councils, he says, should hold tho sway. Edwin Stone Chappell he'd overthrow, And the rest of the Board he'd fain lay low ; The Clerk and members he'd put to flight— Too great a, task c'en for a "Knight." To me it appears decidedly clear That Knight of himself thinks no small beer ; Had he on the Road Board chanced to sit, He'd bave tried to rule with a " Pelham " bit; The Board would have then done all things right. Four members acting under Knight. But the ratepaj-ers knew what X was about, And they therefore carefully kept him out. The Road Board yet will see the light, In spite of even the darkest " Knight."
