QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY AT LITTLE AKALOA.

A pretty constant succession of excursion and other trips by the Titan has kept this usually quiet locality somewhat prominently of late before the good people of Christchurch aud- Lyttelton'/ The real beauties of the bay are always acknowledged by those who visit it. That the place is becoming a favorite locality for picnics was proved completely on Tuesday week, when the Titan, .under the careful pilotage of her gonial captain, W.Cameron, bron j, lit down 200 excursionists. Host Connon was quite equal, to the occasion, he having provided, with his accustomed liberality, eatables and potables for all tastes. The same gentleman gave a dance in the schoolroom in tho evening. All the young ladies in the district received written invitations, and very few failed to put in an appearance. Tea", coffee, lemonade, and other goed things were provided free of cost, and these, as well as the dance, were thoroughly enjoyed by all present. Tlie morning of the next day was by no means in its infancy when the party broke

'On tho same day a cricket match between the: Okaiii's .ami the 'Little Akaloa teams was played in the recreation ground. Shortly, we may say that the play throughout was good,and consequently the match was keenly contested. The really lino allround play of II- Mcintosh for the local te-mi, amflliatof G. Mason for the Okain's, were the subject of general'admiration. Tiki first named being the highest scorer, seemed a new bat, the gift ot Mr Connon. A thoroughly enjoyable day was spent, the wind" up . being a substantial dinner provided at the hotel, ami given by the local team to their opponents.
