An important meeting was held at Little River on Monday evening to take railway matters into consideration Wo have received from our correspondent a full re port of the proceedings, whioh, however, came to hand too late for insertion in our present issue. A pigeon match took place on Tuesday morning. The competitors wers Messrs F. Aiming. J. Roberts, W. Parsons, and 11. Edmondson. Two points were allowed for each bird falling within bound-*, and one for a bird falling outside. W. Parsons killed two birds out of four, thus sooting four points. 'The others each killed one, and scored two. \ •

All kinds of games and sports were provided for the delectation of the youngsters, nor were the good thing of this life in the shape of eat.iblus and drinkable hy any means neglected. All pressnt enjoyed themselves immensly, and when tho jineniles had returned to their respective homes the festivities wound up with a ball in tho woolshcd at which about fifty couples were present. Between three and fourhundred partook of Mr and Mrs Piper's hospitality during tho day.

A meeting of the Sports Commiltee was held on Wednesday evening at Bruce's Hotel. His Worship tho Mayor occupied the chair, aud there was a full attendance of members. The chief business was the presentation of the prizes won on tbe previous dny. The Chairman made the presentations, accompanying each with a few appropriate and encouraging remarks. The amount of £20 5s was paid away in prizes, the following being the principal prize takers :—Walter Watkins, £5 12s Gd; John Armstrong, £3 2s Gd ; J. Roberts, £2 10s ; E. Watkins, £2 5s and a cricket ball ;F. R. Roberts, £2 5... It was reported that the entertainment had netted £10 for the fund, a result which was considered highly satisfactory. The treasurer's statement showed that, after paying all expenses, something over £10 was in hand. It was resolved to deposit this surplus in the Savings Bank as the nucleus of a fund for a future occasion. Votes of thanks were passed to the officers who had assisted so zealously in making the affair a success, to the performers at the entertainment, and to the Mayor for his kindness in providing a nice " spread " for the Committee.
