London, May 21. It has transpired that the Right Hon. Earl Granville, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, has referred to the Tunisian treaty in the recent despatches to the French Government, emphatically protesting that France will be expected to fulfil existing treaty obligations and to respect the privileges that England has hitherto enjoyed in connection with the Government of the Tunisian principality. At the wool auction to-day 8200 baleß were offered. The bidding was excited. Australian tallow has risen 6d per cwt; best beef is quoted at 355, best mutton 365, Several important arrests have lately been made of suspected persons in various parts of Ireland. Despatches received by the Government from the commander of the French forces in Tunis state that the opposition of the Native tribes to the French troops has been entirely overcome, the Arabs having been everywhere repulsed. London, May 20. In the House of Commons yesterday the Irish Land Bill was read a second
time and passed by a majority of 176. Mr Parnell and the members of the extreme Irish party abstained from voting.
At a banquet in the City yesterday evening the Marquis of Salisbury made a speech, in the course of which he referred to the Irish Land Bill in disparaging terms severely, denouncing the Irish policy of the Geverment.
