GOVERNMENT BONUS TO CHEESE FACTORIES-A SUGG ESTION.
To the Editor. Sin.—As the Government have been so veiy liberal in offering a £500 bonus for ■ the first 50 tons of cheese shipped to a foreign market which may fetch a price showing tint it is of fair quality. [1 would suggest that as they seem po';jvery willing to assist in the promotion of local industries, and more especially in exportable articles, that if they were willing to assist such enterprise as has been exhibited by the Banks Peninsula settlors, they might do a vast amount of good, say, by giving prizes of £20 for first, £10 second, and £5 third, to th') persons who take the throe highest prices in each shipment of cheese to the Home market, quantity to be. say, not less than half a ton each lot. If this were done, a system of rivalry or kindly emulation would be established amongf.t the farmers, as each would be striving to outvie his neighbor, and in this manner £500 would go a long way.—l am, etc., 01-IHESE EXPORT.
