(From The Lyttelton Times.) London, May 2. In the House of Commons this evening the Irish Land Eill came up for consideration on the second reading. In the course of the debate Lord Elcho, the member for Haddingtonshire, aciing on behalf of the Conservatives, made a speech, in which he strongly denounced the provisions of the Eill, and concluded by moving its rejection as a whole by the House. The discussion on the motionjcontinues. May 3. M r John Dillon, M.P. for Tipperary, and one of the chief agitators of the Land League, has been arrested in Ireland on a warrant issued by the Viceroy under the Coercion Act. A BRITISH MAN-OF-WAJt BLOWN UP. May 4] Information has been reciveed by the Admiralty that a terrible explosion occurred on board the British man-of-war Doterel on April 26, when off the Sandy Point, in Straits of Magellan, causing the total wreck of the vessel and great loss of life. Only the Captain and ten others eurvived the disaster. Nothing is known as to the cause of the explosion.
