London, April 8. The Oxford nnd Cambridge University boat race took place,to-day over the usual course on the Thames, and resulted in an easy victory for Oxford by three lengths. April 9. Brndlaugh has been re-elected for Northampton. Paris, April D. Diplomatic correspondence continues between the French and Italian Government on the Tunisian question, and it has transpired that the French Government , has in its last communication disavowed j any intention to annex Tunis, but firmly insists that French influence shall preponderate in the principalities.

London, Apiil 7. In the House of Commons to-day the Bill introduced by Government for the amendment of the Irish land laws was laid on the table and read a first time The measure provides for the erection of Courts of Law to fix rents, which shall hereafter remain unaltered fora period of 15 years. The Court will also undertake the regulation of land tenure and land sales. A commission will be appointed to make grants to facilitate emigration, to assist tenants to purchase their holdings, and to buy land from landholders who are willing to sell. It will be optional with landlords and tenants to evoke the aid of the Courts. It is intended that the Act will be partially retrospective. London, April 8. Lord Carlingford (formerly Mr Chichester-Fortescue) succeeds the Duke of Argyle as Lord of the Privy Seal. Sir Michael Hicks-Beach has given notice in the House of Commons of a motion censuring Government for its settlement of the Transvaal difficulty. A bulletin issued this evening repoits that Earl Beaconsfield continues very weak and is still in a critical state. It is announced that the Duke of Argyle has resigned his position as Lord Privy Seal in tlie Ministry. His .Grace's resignation is duo to difference of opinion with his late col leagues as to the provisions of the Irish Land Bill which lias been introduced into Parliament. A bulletin signed tliid .morning states that Earl Boaconsfield's relapse has left lriiri exceedingly weak, and uneasiness is expressed as to his state. Great general anxiety is felt at the critical nature of his Lordship's illness.
